Scholarship for Building Civic & Social Leaders

Support University of Mary Washington

Recognizing a Watershed Moment and World-wide Awakening

This newly established scholarship in George Perry Floyd, Jr.’s memory is being created in recognition of the historic events that have led to a modern-day movement for racial equality and national calls to end systemic racism. The scholarship will promote the development of leadership skills for students committed to addressing societal issues disproportionately affecting black and underrepresented communities.

In launching the new endowed scholarship, UMW President Troy Paino and his wife Kelly have announced that they will match the first $5,000 in donor gifts to this scholarship.  The fund has a $100,000 goal.

The University of Mary Washington is committed to addressing the injustices of systemic racism and continuing the legacy of UMW professor, civil rights pioneer, and Presidential Medal of Freedom recipient Dr. James L. Farmer, Jr., who said: “Words are not enough. There must be action.”

As #OneUMW, we stand together against racism. Please consider supporting the leadership potential of students who can make a difference.  Give now and you may even double your impact through the Painos’ match.
