50th Reunion - Class of 1972

Mary Washington Class of 1972, we're celebrating our 50th Reunion in 2022!  We invite you to join your classmates in contributing to our class gift in honor of this milestone. We are focusing on the following four pillars of giving with a goal of having 100 percent class participation by Reunion Weekend:

  • Financial Support for Students: A significant percentage of Mary Washington students are the first in their families to pursue four-year degrees. Others encounter financial strain on the path to graduation. This fund supports these hardworking students with financial assistance as they seek a life-changing degree. Contributions in this area will become part of the General Scholarship Fund.

  • Academic Support for Students: UMW’s libraries continue to be centers of knowledge, collaboration, research, and academic support on campus. This fund supports digitization of library resources, facility improvements, and a faculty effort to provide low-cost options for students’ learning materials. Contributions in this area will become part of the UMW Libraries Fund.

  • Historic Preservation: Providing essential funding to preserve the historic nature of Mary Washington’s iconic but aging buildings, this fund will ensure that students will be able to learn and grow in these historic spaces for generations to come.  Contributions in this area will become part of the Campus Preservation Fund.

  • Class of 1972 Dr. Michael Bass Scholarship: To honor Dr. Michael Bass, Professor Emeritus of Biology and Environmental Science and class sponsor, the Class of 1972 is working to fund a scholarship that will create opportunities for talented students with financial need to pursue undergraduate research in the sciences.

If you prefer to give to another area of the University, please select "Other" on the donation form. Your gift, no matter the size, strengthens Mary Washington and creates a world of opportunity for today's students.

Other Ways to Give

Matching Gifts: Many companies offer gift-matching programs that can double or triple employees’ or retirees’ personal gifts to the Annual Fund. Matching gifts are an important source of support for the Annual Fund. Find out if your company has a matching gift program by contacting your Human Resources Department or by checking the matching gift database. If your company does match charitable contributions, request the appropriate form and send it to UMW along with your gift. Many companies also match gifts from retirees, spouses, and outside directors. When UMW receives the matching gift from your company, that gift will be combined with your gift to determine your gift club recognition level.

Multi-Year Pledges: A multi-year commitment of any amount per year for up to 5 years can be made to the Annual Fund. For reunion campaigns, the full amount of a multi-year pledge will be recognized for the class’s reunion gift. To make a multi-year pledge, please fill out this form and submit to the address at the bottom of the form. For any additional questions please contact the Office of University Advancement at umwgift@umw.edu or 540-654-1024.

Stock and Securities: Download/print a form with specific directions to ensure your gifts are transferred and credited properly.

RMD from IRA or Retirement Fund: Designate your required minimum distribution from your IRA or other retirement fund to UMW, avoiding taxes. Please contact Jan Clarke, Assistant Vice President for Gift Planning, for more information: jclarke@umw.edu

Planned Giving: Make a gift through your will or estate. More information about planned giving is available here.
