Strength and Conditioning

Thank you for choosing to support the Strength and Conditioning Department during the UMW Athletics #CallingAllEagles Challenge!

The mission of the Strength and Conditioning Department at Mary Washington is to provide quality sport performance training to all student-athletes. As a team of professionals, we utilize current research, and knowledge to provide a comprehensive and progressive approach to ensure the health and well-being of each student-athlete through all phases of their athletic and personal growth.

We are a team of healthcare professionals providing care to over 550 student-athletes including individual screenings, team structured lifts, conditioning sessions specific to the sport, rehabilitation of injuries, monitoring and tracking progress/disfunction, and working closely with our athletic training staff to help promote the best holistic approach to our student-athletes wellness.

Our biggest need for fundraising is for equipment upgrades. Wanting to provide Eagle student-athletes with the most up-to-date experience requires us to annually inspect and analyze equipment, including dumbbells, barbells, various trap bars, squat racks, medicine balls, resistance bands of all sizes, stability balls, treadmill, bike, etc. Our high-volume equipment such as resistance bands and medicine balls need replacing nearly every year after use by our nearly 600 student-athlete population, spending roughly 1,500 hours as a department, using the same pieces of equipment. On top of the equipment upgrades, we would use fundraising dollars to help further educate student-athletes on the ever-prevalent battles of eating properly and various mental awareness opportunities. These resources usually come from some type of outside educational organization and often cost money for speakers or presentations. However, as a department, we feel it is an integral area of development for our student-athletes.
