Radical Students' Union

The purpose of the Radical Students’ Union (RSU) is to provide students with radical and progressive politics, an on-campus community to build solidarity around their respective areas of activism, provide support to students and the community through direct action, and aid each other and the UMW community at large in recognizing the intersectionality of various struggles toward social justice through a radical critique of the social and economic status quo. Via our mutual aid fund, we are able to support students in need whether it helps with groceries, medical expenses, or childcare assistance. Each month, RSU also selects a specific issue that affects the UMW and Fredericksburg communities, and we choose an organization combatting the issue to donate some of our funds to.

In addition, the RSU is dedicated to:

• Coordinating a regular series of round-table discussions of social and economic issues in the modern day
• Fostering a connection between university and community activists, providing feedback on current developments, and how to stand in solidarity with social justice movements
• Creating systems to express the wants and needs of the students when it comes to social justice movements today
• Raising awareness of local, national, and international radical history

With your support, we will be able to help other students in need via our mutual aid fund as well as help organizations combat issues within our community.
