The Aubade, UMW’s literary and art magazine, is a student organization aimed at promoting student creativity through the creation of a literary and art magazine and related programming. Relaunched in 2020, we work to continue the legacy of the original Aubade, which began in the 1970s. We publish a 60-page magazine every semester filled with student-created work. Dozens of students submit for each issue, and the club spends most of the semester discussing and deciding which works to publish. Then, we design and layout the magazine itself in order to publish before the semester ends.
Recently, we’ve also begun creating unique programming on campus like open mic nights and creative workshops in order to encourage students to explore their own creative abilities outside of submitting to our magazine. Ultimately, our club allows students to share their creative work on a public platform and explore their own artistic voice. Funding raised will help us to expand our special programming opportunities to better engage students and promote artistic and literary creativity within the UMW community.
