Our club, Talk to the Hands, is a way for UMW students to learn American Sign Language and about Deaf culture. UMW does not offer ASL classes, so our club is one of the only ways students can learn sign language on campus. Along with our weekly meetings, our club holds the annual Silent Dinner. The Silent Dinner is an event where we all turn our voices off and practice communicating using other methods, such as sign language, gestures, writing, gifs, etc.
We plan to use the money we raise to help our students learn and experience Deaf culture. In the past, we have visited the signing Starbucks in D.C. and the Deaf/HoH tour at Ferry Farm. We hope you consider donating to Talk to the Hands to promote the learning of sign and Deaf culture for UMW students!
