Our mission as a club is to play competitive volleyball while fostering fun and friendly relationships. Our goal as a club is to allow individuals to further their volleyball skills, develop a teamwork mentality, and build communication and leadership skills. Club volleyball has been an excellent way for people to make a transition between high school and college as it welcomes players who have played volleyball for years as well as players who are new to the sport! It is a great way to get to know people in the UMW community who share the same love for volleyball, and it can also be a source of stress relief and reprieve from the academic pressure that being a college student can create.
The model of our club is to have two competitive teams (team Mary and team Wash) that travel to tournaments to play against different college club teams and one team (team Eagle), which is a practice team for students who either cannot make the travel commitment or who are new to the sport! The travel teams attend about three tournaments every semester at various colleges. We were able to host our first home tournament in the spring of 2022, and we plan to continue to host one tournament each spring that invites college club teams from around the state to play at UMW! With the money raised, we will use some of it to help cover the cost of hosting a home tournament as well as buy some new equipment for the team.
