Radical Students' Union

The purpose of the Radical Students’ Union (RSU) is to support disadvantaged groups on our campus through direct action such as mutual aid, fundraising, supply drives, meal sponsorships, and educating fellow members of the community on the experiences of oppressed people.

What we've done over the past academic year (2022-2023):

• Started a Mutual Aid Fund for the UMW Community to help with food, tuition, miscellaneous bills, and medical expenses.
• Gave multiple free, cooked meals away to students staying on campus for fall break/Thanksgiving due to all dining options being closed.
• Met with President Paino and his team to discuss the safety of Black students on campus and update the bias reporting system and placement of resources on campus.
• Hosted our Annual Hygiene Drive and donated over $200 worth of supplies as well as $150 in monetary donations to the Brisben Center.
• Donated over $300 for the multiple families affected by the Mass shootings in Half Moon Bay and Monterey Park in January 2023.
• Led the efforts to voice student opposition for a tuition increase to university leadership. We were excited to learn that UMW remained one of the few schools in VA to keep tuition flat.
• Participated in the nationwide walkout day and co-hosted a rally with the YDSA on the right to choose and Roe v. Wade.

With your support, we will be able to help other students in need via our mutual aid fund as well as help organizations combat issues within our community. 

This fund is designed to help students with financial insecurities whether it be with food, bills/rent, transportation, tuition assistance, or medical needs. The fund is open to all members of the UMW community. We get close to 15-25 applications per semester and we can't help fund this without the support of others.
